REPORT ON THE CURRENT STATUS OF
UNITED NATIONS ROMANIZATION SYSTEMS FOR GEOGRAPHICAL NAMES
Compiled by the UNGEGN Working Group on Romanization Systems
Version 4.0, March 2016
No romanization systems for Kirghiz (Kyrgyz) have been put forward at the United Nations conferences on the standardization of geographical names or at sessions of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names. In 2008 the Government of Kyrgyzstan approved the national system of romanization that was based on the BGN/PCGN 1979 system; a detailed degree on the rendering of geographical names in Roman script was passed in 20101.
