‣ Elementaarüksusena käsitletav nimega seos käsitlusvalla objektide ja neid esitavate sõnade vahel. Sellise loomuga seos hõlmab objektide hulga, sõnade hulga ja objekt-sõna-paaride hulga, milles objekt ja sõna on võetud vastavast hulgast. Paaride hulk esitab üksühest vastavust objektihulga kõigi elementide ja sõnahulga sama arvu elementide vahel.
Näide:
▫ Objektide hulk: maailma maad; sõnade hulk: ühe-, kahe- või kolmemärgilised stringid; paaride hulk: „A„ - Austria Vabariik, „B„ - Belgia Kuningriik, „CH„ - Šveitsi Konföderatsioon, „USA„ - Ameerika Ühendriigid. Selle andmeelemendi nimi on „Autode maatunnus„. Kui see ei tekita vääriti mõistmist, nimetatakse „Autode maatunnuseks„ ka kõiki kehtivaid sõnu „A„, „B„, „CH„, ..., „USA„.
Märkus:
▫Objektid võivad olla konkreetsed või abstraktsed.
▫Seoses ei pea tingimata osalema kõik sõna elemendid.

‣ A named relationship, viewed as an elementary unit, established between objects of the universe of discourse and words representing them. A relationship of this nature comprises a set of objects, a set of words, and a set of object-word-pairs, where the object and the word are taken from the respective set. The set of pairs represents a one-to-one correspondence among all elements of the object set and an equal number of elements of the word set.
Näide:
▫ The set of objects: The countries of the world;
the set of words: Strings of one, two, or three characters;
the set of pairs: „A„ for the Republic of Austria;
„B„ for the Kingdom of Belgium;
„CH„ for the Confederation of Switzerland;
...
„USA„ for the United States of America.
This data element is named „Country identifier for automobiles„. If a misunderstanding can be excluded, each of the valid words „A„, „B„, „CH„, ..., „USA„ is usually also called „Country identifier of automobiles„.
Märkus:
▫Objects may be concrete or abstract.
▫It is not necessary that all elements of the word set participate in the relationship.
